About Dog Food

I have been working hands on, grooming pets for five decades. Over the years I have seen a lot of health issues in the pets that we groom, that are directly related to the food they were eating. Stomach upsets, vomiting, constant scratching, licking and chewing, skin lesions, ear infections, increased tear staining, and inflamed and swollen paw pads.

Pets that suffer from food allergies and sensitivities are also more prone to develop seasonal allergies, or a hypersensitivity to flea bites. Feeding a quality diet that is corn, wheat, soy and gluten free is the first step in providing your fur baby optimum health and longevity. Those very common dog food ingredients are known allergens and should be avoided. You cannot determine what is inside the bag, or how nutritionally sound that food is, by the graphics on the packaging, even if they are manufactured by the top names in pet food. You must read the label and have some knowledge of ingredients to avoid for the long-term health of your best friend. You may be surprised to know that the most common response from our pet parents whose pets suffer from the most serious chronic health issues listed above when asked what they feed is Beneful and Kibbles & Bits.

I encourage you to research the negative impact of feeding a diet that contains corn, soy, wheat gluten or any type of by-product meal. When the food is changed to a higher quality corn, soy and wheat free formula the results can be dramatic. Less scratching, skin lesions clear up and the dog is all around happier, more comfortable and healthier. Please check out these dog food review sites to see how your current pet’s diet rates.
